Measuring Ring Size and Necklace Length: The Complete Size Guide

by Noortje van Hilten on Jun 13 2026

Measure your ring size in 1 minute

No ring sizer at home? Use this method:

  1. Wrap a strip of paper or a piece of string snugly around the base of your finger.
  2. Mark the point where the paper overlaps and measure the length in millimeters. This is the circumference.
  3. Already have a ring that fits well? Then measure the inside diameter (edge to edge on the inside) in mm.

Tip: measure at the end of the day (your fingers are slightly thicker then) and measure the finger you're actually going to wear the ring on.

Ring size chart (circumference → size)

Most sizes are based on the circumference in millimeters:

Circumference Diameter Size
48 mm 15.3 mm 48 (S)
50 mm 15.9 mm 50
52 mm 16.5 mm 52 (M)
54 mm 17.2 mm 54
56 mm 17.8 mm 56 (L)
58 mm 18.5 mm 58
60 mm 19.1 mm 60 (XL)

Choosing a necklace length

  • 35–40 cm / 13.8–15.7 inch (choker): sits close around the neck, lovely with a bare neckline or a V-neck.
  • 40–45 cm / 15.7–17.7 inch (princess): the most popular length, just below the collarbone.
  • 45–50 cm / 17.7–19.7 inch: all-rounder, falls nicely on the chest and works with almost any outfit.
  • 50–60 cm / 19.7–23.6 inch: longer; ideal for layering or with a high-necked top.

Combine two lengths (40 and 50 cm, for example) for a beautiful layered look. Browse all necklaces.

Which necklace for which neckline?

V-neck: a pendant that follows the V. Round neck: a short to medium-length necklace. High neck or turtleneck: a long necklace, or a statement pendant worn over the top.
