Christmas Gifts for Men: Men's Jewelry and Leather Accessories

Ask a man in November what he wants for Christmas and you get "no idea" or "honestly, nothing". Three weeks later you are standing between the socks, the whiskey glasses and yet another beer gift set. We can do better. This guide covers the men's jewelry and leather accessories he will actually use every day — plus the part that usually trips people up: how to work out his bracelet size and ring size without asking.

Lundholm makes jewelry in premium stainless steel and leather goods in Scandinavian design: understated, sturdy and without a big logo on the front. Everything comes in a luxury Lundholm gift box as standard, so there is no wrapping left to do. We will walk through the four categories that land best: natural stone beaded bracelets, braided leather bracelets, wide rings and fidget rings, and on the leather side the RFID wallets and card holders.

Why jewelry lands better with men than you would think

Men rarely buy jewelry for themselves — not because they dislike it, but because it never makes it to the top of the list. That is exactly why it works as a gift.

One difference from women's jewelry: where a woman switches pieces with every outfit, a man usually picks one piece and wears it for months on end. So your gift has to survive a shower, a gym session and a rainstorm. Our men's jewelry is made from premium stainless steel: waterproof, hypoallergenic and made to last. Natural stone beaded bracelets: lava stone, tiger's eye and obsidian

This is the starting point for most men. A natural stone beaded bracelet is rugged without being flashy, and because the beads are strung on elastic you do not have to pick a size. The difference is in the stone.

Lava stone is volcanic rock: deep black, porous and completely matte. It weighs very little, feels rough and does not shine — ideal for someone who says he is "not really a jewelry person". The Eirik is the purest version with lava stone only in 8 mm; the Emil does the same in 6 mm and reads more subtly as a result.

Tiger's eye is golden brown with bands that shift as you turn your wrist — the so-called cat's eye effect. It is the warmest stone of the group and works well with brown leather and watches on a brown strap. Look at the Gunnar or, if you want something rougher, the Knut with irregular chips. There is more about the stone in our piece on the meaning of tiger's eye.

Obsidian is cooled volcanic glass: deep black with a real shine, the opposite of lava stone. Snowflake obsidian has gray-white flecks that look like snow on black. Combinations work best here — the Olav sets glossy obsidian next to matte lava stone with gold-tone accents.

If you want some color, there is the Frode in African turquoise, the Njord in earth tones and the gray Vegard in map stone. Want black but slightly different: the Odin in weathered agate or the Sigurd with cubes set between the beads.

What bracelet size does he wear? How to find out without asking

This is where most people get stuck, and it is simpler than it looks. All you need is a strip of paper and a ruler.

Step 1 — measure the wrist. Wrap a strip of paper or a tape measure around his wrist, just below the wrist bone toward the hand. Pull it until it sits against the skin but does not pinch. Mark the spot, lay the strip flat and read off the centimeters. That is the wrist circumference.

Step 2 — add a little. A bracelet needs room to move. For a beaded bracelet, add about 1.5 cm (0.6 inch) to the wrist circumference; for a braided leather bracelet add 2 to 2.5 cm (0.8 to 1 inch), because leather is thicker and gives less.

Cannot get near his wrist? Then take a bracelet or a watch he already wears. Lay it flat on the table, measure the inside of the loop and you have the size he already finds comfortable. With a watch, measure the strap plus the case.

If you have nothing at all to go on, these guidelines help: a slim wrist is around 16 to 17 cm (6.3 to 6.7 inch), average is 17.5 to 18.5 cm (6.9 to 7.3 inch) and a sturdy wrist is 19 to 20 cm (7.5 to 7.9 inch). Most men end up with a bracelet of 18 to 19 cm (7.1 to 7.5 inch). Our braided leather bracelets come in a fixed length — the Joris is 21 cm (8.3 inch), the Arvid 23 cm (9.1 inch) — so always check that on the product page.

Really unsure? Go elastic. All Lundholm natural stone beaded bracelets are strung on elastic, so they fit almost any man's wrist. The Sven link bracelet is elastic and one size too. A quick check afterwards: you should be able to slide one finger underneath and turn the bracelet half a turn. Any tighter and it is too small.

Braided leather bracelets: a safe bet for a man who never wears jewelry

If he wears nothing at all on his wrists, leather is a softer landing than steel or stone. A narrow braided band reads more like an accessory than a piece of jewelry, and that makes it a much easier first step.

In real leather we have the Nils in braided black and the Erik with a stainless steel clasp. The Lars comes in black, brown and blue — blue is the surprising color that almost always works with denim. There is also a line in faux leather with five braided layers: the Joris, the Koen and the slightly more luxurious Julian, which looks wider and sturdier.

If you want the best of both worlds, look at the models that combine leather with natural stone: the Björn with tiger's eye beads in faux leather and the Arvid with lava stone and a stainless steel clasp. There is more on types and clasps in our guide to men's leather bracelets.

Prefer steel: link bracelets for a sharper look

Not everyone wants beads or leather. A steel link bracelet is the classic choice: cool to the touch, heavier in the hand and immediately a little more formal. It pairs with a watch and does not look out of place under a shirt cuff.

The Sven is elastic and one size — the safest steel choice when you do not know his size. The Sören has a king's link, a densely woven pattern that catches the light beautifully. And for something heavier: the Axel in cuban link, in silver-tone or in black.

Wide rings and fidget rings

A men's ring is wider than a women's ring: 8 mm is the width you see most often. Wide enough to be noticed, narrow enough to wear all day. The Magnus is the basic version in stainless steel, the Magnus in titanium steel is the lighter variant with matte and polish side by side, and the Torsten combines a matte band with polished edges.

Then there are the fidget rings, also called spinner or anxiety rings. On these, a loose outer band spins around the fixed inner band. For someone who clicks his pen or keeps fiddling with his phone that is surprisingly satisfying — and from the outside nobody notices a thing. The Sten is the clean version; the Ivar has Roman numerals engraved into the spinning band. Have a look at the anxiety and fidget rings collection as well.

Finding his ring size without asking: borrow a ring he already wears and measure the inside with a ruler. Multiply that diameter in millimeters by 3.14 and you have the European ring size. An inner diameter of 20 mm therefore comes to size 63, which is roughly a US size 10.5. Most men are between size 60 and 66. One thing to keep in mind: a wide 8 mm ring puts more metal around the finger, which makes it feel tighter — so go one size up without hesitation. Every step is set out in our size guide for ring size and necklace length.

Leather: RFID wallets and card holders

A wallet is the gift he literally holds in his hand every day. (Please note: our leather goods ship within the EU only.) And for most men the current wallet is well past its best, because you only replace one when it truly gives up. That is exactly why a new one lands so well.

Start with the style. A billfold is the classic bi-fold wallet with slots for notes and cards; the Oslo series and the Kopenhagen series fall into that group. If he carries it in his trouser pocket, look at a compact model such as the Uppsala series in cognac, which is a good deal slimmer. And for a man who only carries a few cards and one note, a card holder from the Örebro series is enough. Torn between the two? Read card holder or wallet.

Every model has RFID anti-skimming protection. Contactless bank cards send out a signal over a short distance; a shielding layer in the wallet keeps that signal from being read while he is standing on public transport. Not exciting technology, but good to have.

And if you genuinely cannot decide, there is the Örebro gift set: card holder, wallet and leather key holder together in one box, in black or brown. That is the surest bet in this whole article. One tip for afterwards: leather ages better when you look after it now and then — see how to care for a leather bag and wallet.

Frequently asked questions about Christmas gifts for men

What is a good Christmas gift for a man who says he does not need anything?

Pick something he uses every day but never replaces himself. A leather wallet with RFID protection or a card holder almost always lands well, because the old one is usually worn out. If you want something more personal, a natural stone beaded bracelet in lava stone or tiger's eye is a safe choice: it is elastic, so you do not need to know his size.

What bracelet size do most men wear?

Most men wear a bracelet of 18 to 19 cm (7.1 to 7.5 inch). Measure his wrist circumference just below the wrist bone with a strip of paper and add about 1.5 cm for a beaded bracelet or 2 to 2.5 cm for a braided leather bracelet. As a guideline: a slim wrist is 16 to 17 cm, average is 17.5 to 18.5 cm and a sturdy wrist 19 to 20 cm.

What is the difference between lava stone, tiger's eye and obsidian?

Lava stone is volcanic rock: deep black, porous, completely matte and light in weight. Tiger's eye is golden brown with bands that shift as you turn your wrist, the cat's eye effect. Obsidian is cooled volcanic glass and glossy black instead; snowflake obsidian has gray-white flecks. Matte, warm or glossy — that is the choice.

Is Lundholm men's jewelry waterproof?

The premium stainless steel jewelry is waterproof and hypoallergenic, so he can keep it on in the shower and at the gym. With bracelets that use natural stone or leather it is wiser to take them off before the shower or the pool: leather stiffens when it stays wet and porous stones absorb water.

What does RFID protection in a wallet mean?

Contactless bank cards and ID cards send out a signal over a short distance. An RFID or anti-skimming layer in the wallet shields that signal, so the card cannot be read unnoticed while your wallet sits closed in your pocket. Every Lundholm men's wallet and card holder has this protection.

How do I find out his ring size?

Borrow a ring he already wears and measure the inside with a ruler. The inner diameter in millimeters times 3.14 gives the European ring size: 20 mm is size 63. Most men are between size 60 and 66. With a wide 8 mm ring it is best to go one size up, because it feels tighter.

In short: if you do not know his size, go for an elastic beaded bracelet or something in leather. If you do know it, a braided bracelet or a wide ring works just as well. And if you really cannot decide, the Örebro gift set is the fail-safe choice (for delivery within the EU). Browse all men's jewelry or have a look through the men's wallets.
