Jewelry with stones for women - the complete guide (cubic zirconia, natural stone & birthstone)
Jewelry with stones gives your look instant shine — from sparkling cubic zirconia to colorful natural stone and birthstones with a personal meaning. In this guide we explain the difference, show you our prettiest women's jewelry per category, and help you choose the stone that suits you (or your gift).
A piece of jewelry with a stone does something plain metal cannot: it catches the light, adds color and finishes off a simple outfit. But "jewelry with stones" covers a lot of ground. At Lundholm we work with three types: cubic zirconia (the clear, diamond-like sparkle), natural stone (real stones in warm and cool colors) and birthstone (the stone that belongs to the month someone was born in). Below you will find all three — and which one suits you best.
The good news: all Lundholm jewelry is waterproof and hypoallergenic, made from premium stainless steel with PVD gold plating. It will not discolor and will not irritate your skin, even with daily wear, in the shower or in the pool.

Which types of stones are there?
Before you choose, it helps to know the difference. These are the three types you will come across most often in women's jewelry:
- Cubic zirconia (CZ): a clear, crystal-like stone that sparkles like a diamond but costs far less. Ideal for a classic, brilliant look. It also comes in colors (pink, green, blue).
- Natural stone: real stones such as amazonite, lapis lazuli, rose quartz and agate. Every stone has its own color and veining, so no two are exactly alike. Lovely if you want color and character.
- Birthstone: a stone that stands for the month someone was born in. That is what makes these pieces such a personal and meaningful gift.
Torn between sparkle and color? Cubic zirconia goes with just about any outfit and is the safest choice for a gift. Choose natural stone if you know someone who loves color and one-of-a-kind pieces. A birthstone is the most personal choice of all.
1. Cubic zirconia jewelry — sparkle without the price of a diamond
Cubic zirconia is the classic among stones. The clear version sparkles like a diamond and works with everything: jeans, the office, a wedding or a night out. At Lundholm you will find cubic zirconia in earrings, necklaces, rings and bracelets — from subtle stud earrings just a few millimeters across to statement hoop earrings. When do you wear cubic zirconia?
Small studs (like Nikki) are perfect for every day and for a second piercing. Hoops with cubic zirconia (Hova, Delia) give your look that little bit of extra shine for work or dinner out. A necklace with a cubic zirconia pendant (Monique, Eline) can be worn on its own or in a layered stack. For a wedding or a party you can go bigger — combine a cubic zirconia necklace with matching studs.
2. Natural stone jewelry — color & character
Would you rather have color than classic sparkle? Then natural stone is your direction. Our Sophia adjustable ring is the favorite here: one design in six real stones — amazonite (blue-green), lapis lazuli (royal blue), rose quartz (soft pink), agate (warm tones), green agate (jade) and amethyst (purple). Because the ring is adjustable, it fits almost every finger. Take a look at our other adjustable rings too.

Which natural stone color suits which skin tone?
Do you have a cool undertone (bluish veins)? Then blue and green stones will look beautiful on you — lapis lazuli, amazonite or green agate. Do you have a warm undertone (greenish veins)? Then go for warm stones such as red agate, pink or beige. A gold-tone setting (like all of our rings) gives every stone that bit of extra warmth. Tip: wear no more than two stones at a time and keep them in the same color family.
3. Birthstone jewelry — a gift with meaning
A birthstone makes a piece of jewelry personal: you wear (or give) the stone that belongs to your birth month. That is why birthstone jewelry is such a popular gift for mothers, friends and birthdays. Our Grace stud earrings are available per month, and the Sophia ring comes in stones that pair beautifully with different months. Browse the full birthstone collection.

Do jewelry pieces with stones discolor or irritate?
A frequently asked question — and our answer is reassuring. All Lundholm jewelry is made from premium stainless steel with a thick PVD plating. That makes it waterproof (the shower, the pool and the sea do no harm) and hypoallergenic (nickel-free, so suitable for sensitive skin too). The stones stay clear as long as you keep them away from harsh cleaning products and do not spray perfume directly onto them. Want to know more? Frequently asked questions — jewelry with stones
What is the difference between cubic zirconia and a diamond?
Cubic zirconia is a clear, crystal-like stone that sparkles like a diamond but costs far less. It is an excellent choice for everyday jewelry and for gifts: the same brilliance, without the price tag of a real diamond.
What is the difference between cubic zirconia and natural stone?
Cubic zirconia is usually clear and uniform in its sparkle, ideal for a classic look. Natural stone (such as amazonite, lapis lazuli or agate) is a real stone with color and its own veining, so every piece is slightly different. Choose cubic zirconia for sparkle, natural stone for color and character.
Which birthstone belongs to which month?
In short: January garnet, February amethyst, March aquamarine, April diamond/clear, May emerald, June pearl, July ruby, August peridot, September sapphire, October opal, November topaz/citrine, December turquoise. Our Grace stud earrings are available per month.
Is jewelry with stones waterproof?
Yes. All Lundholm jewelry is waterproof premium stainless steel. You can wear it in the shower, swimming in the pool or the sea and in the sauna without it discoloring or getting damaged.
Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
Yes. Our jewelry is hypoallergenic and nickel-free, so it is suitable even if you react to cheap metals. Read our guide to hypoallergenic jewelry for more.
Which piece of jewelry with stones makes the best gift?
For a safe choice: a cubic zirconia necklace or studs — they suit just about everyone. Want to make it more personal? Go for a birthstone (Grace studs or a Sophia ring in the right color). Does the person you are giving it to love color? Then a natural stone ring is a lovely surprise.
Does an adjustable ring with a stone fit every finger?
Almost always. Our Sophia, Amee, Elfride, Julie and Fina rings have an open, adjustable fit (one size), so you do not need to know your exact ring size. Handy when it is a gift.
